Did you know...
♦ We Follow The Lectionary... Mostly
We typically follow the Revised Common Lectionary, a three-year cycle of readings shared by churches around the world. But from time to time, we mix it up with seasonal series or special themes unique to our community
♦ The Psalms Are Sung, Not Just Read
At Ascension, we often sing or chant the Psalms, which are ancient poems and songs that have been part of worship for thousands of years. It’s a way to bring music and scripture together in a deep and moving way.
♦ Scripture Inspires Our Sermons, and More
The week’s readings don’t just shape the sermon. They often show up in our music, prayers, and even art around the church. Everything ties together to reflect the message of the day.
♦ Three Readings, One Story
Every Sunday, we hear three readings. One is from the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament), one is from the New Testament, and one is from the Gospels. Together, they weave a story that connects ancient wisdom to our everyday lives.
♦ You Might Be the Reader!
Church attendees of all ages take turns reading scripture during services. If you're feeling brave (and a little curious), you can sign up to be a reader and bring the words to life.
♦ We Read in Many Languages
Our readings are offered in both English and French. It’s a beautiful reminder that God speaks to all people, in every tongue.
